How to Restore Your Headlights The Right Way

Cloudy or yellowed headlights can reduce nighttime visibility and make your truck look older than it is. With a few simple tools and the right method, you can restore your head lamps and improve both appearance and safety. For your Ford F-150, restoring the headlights can make a big difference in overall function and style.

Restoring Your Ford Truck's Headlights

1. Clean the Headlight Lens

Wash the headlights with soap and water to remove surface dirt and grime before starting the restoration process.

2. Tape Around the Headlight

Use painter's tape to protect the surrounding paint and trim while you work on the lens.

3. Sand the Surface

Wet-sand the lens using fine-grit sandpaper (start with 1000 grit and move up to 3000) to remove the oxidized layer.

4. Rinse and Dry

Thoroughly rinse off sanding residue and dry the headlights with a clean microfiber towel.

5. Apply Polishing Compound

Use a plastic polish or headlight restoration compound to buff the lens until it becomes clear and smooth again.

6. Buff with a Polishing Pad

For the best results, use a handheld buffer or drill attachment to evenly polish the lens surface.

7. Seal with UV Protectant

Apply a UV-sealant or clear coat to protect the lens from future yellowing and sun damage.

Once your headlights are shining like new, you can take your truck's front end to the next level with a new grille upgrade. Order today from AwesomeParts.com and enjoy exclusive discounts. Questions? Contact us today.
